Cricket Returns

After what seemed like an eternity, Wagga Cricket finally resumed on Saturday 13th January with 1st & 2nd Grade taking on Lake Albert on day 1 of two day games.

FIRST Grade went into the field, & even though the outfield & conditions probably favoured the new ball, were made to work hard for their wickets, as it took 75 overs & 188 runs to dismiss Lake Albert. Keenan Hanigan (23 overs) & Andrew Dutton (15 overs) toiled away for the bulk of the middle overs taking 3 wickets a piece on the slow outfield, while strike bowler Max Hiller didn’t take a wicket was extremely economical going for 30 from his 15 overs.

Colts junior (Under 16s) Saxby Harrison became Colts # 172 as he made his debut & impressed in the field, even taking the gloves for the latter half of the day keeping to Hanigan & Dutton on a wicket which was getting some turn.

SECOND grade batted first at Rawlings Park, & as the scoreline suggests, the Colts made the most of conditions which continued to improve for batting during the day. Lead by Captain Scott McLachlan, Colts were bowled out on the last ball of the day for 318. McLachlan – who was struck on the head first ball he faced – made 74, and was supported by Ray Stephens with 58, while lower order batting from Jayden Beattie (37) and Andrew Dwyer (30*) pushed the score along to the imposing total.
